“About this Event
The meeting will exclusively look at BIDs and how they are responding to crime and anti-social behaviour. There are now over 300 BIDs in the UK with their total funding coming from business, the levy, at around £100m a year.
Ensuring that BIDs deliver what is important to national retailers is vital, and business crime must be a key element of this going forward. However, this is not just about reducing stock loss. More importantly, it is about protecting staff from violence, which as we all know is a growing problem. The annual Retail Crime Survey, published by the British Retail Consortium (BRC), indicates that violence against retail staff has doubled.
If we want BIDs to deliver what is important to retailers, we need to act collectively and let them know what we want and expect from the levy. As policing priorities place retail even lower down the pecking order this is even more important.
To that end a briefing has been arranged to update you on the work that has been done to create a retail specific Manifesto, which sets out a number of key priorities around safety and security for retail businesses and their employees.”
